Tincture of Benzoin is often applied to skin before applying tape or adhesive bandages. To some

degree, it can protect the skin from allergy to the adhesive in the tape or bandage, but mostly

makes the tape or bandages adhere much longer. Benzoin tincture is a substance that is

used

to protect the skin and has been used in Chinese medicine as a circulatory stimulant.

When

applied, it forms a barrier that protects the skin and does not let anything penetrate and

touch

the skin. Benzoin tincture will create a strong bond between the skin and the bandage

and not

allow the bandage to come off easily. Since it is an alcohol solvent, benzoin tincture

will also act

well as an antiseptic.

Foreskin restorers use it because the tape is under constant tension. Lightly apply the liquid onto

the skin area where if the tape is applied and pulled, equal tension is spread over both the

inner

and outer area of skin. Allow it to dry before applying the tape. Will work best when

applied to

clean, dry skin.
